Michael Charamba: Faith, Football and Resilience in His Chicken Inn Journey

Football and religion are often seen as two different worlds, but Michael Charamba’s story brings them together in a unique way.

In a game where players are judged by goals, assists and performances on the pitch, Charamba carries another responsibility beyond football. He is not only a professional footballer representing Chicken Inn Football Club, but also a man of faith who was ordained into pastoral ministry in 2025.

Being a pastor in football comes with its own challenges. It requires balancing the demands of a professional career with the responsibility of encouraging, guiding and inspiring others through faith. For Charamba, his ministry has not taken him away from football; instead, it has strengthened his purpose and shaped the way he approaches the game.

He believes football can be more than just competition. It can be a platform to inspire people, encourage young players and demonstrate values such as humility, discipline and perseverance.

His journey with Chicken Inn Football Club began in January 2021, starting a chapter that has been filled with growth, lessons, achievements and challenges. Over the years, Charamba has developed into an important figure at the club, experiencing both the highs and lows that come with life as a professional footballer.

One of the moments that reflected his character came in 2022 when he was nominated for the Chicken Inn FC Most Disciplined Player Award. Although he did not win the award, the recognition showed the respect he had earned through his professionalism, commitment and conduct both on and off the field.

His consistency and hard work were rewarded in 2023 when he was named among the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Soccer Stars of the Year. It was a special achievement for the forward, marking his second Soccer Stars recognition after previously achieving the honour in 2018 during his time at Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Charamba’s football journey has also been about preparing for the future. In 2026, he completed the CAF D Coaching Licence in South Africa, adding another layer to his football knowledge and opening opportunities to contribute to the sport beyond his playing career.

The 2026 season tested his resilience when he suffered an injury during Matchday 2 against Triangle United at Barbourfields Stadium.

Before the setback, Charamba had already made an impact, featuring in Chicken Inn’s opening two matches and providing one assist.

The injury period was difficult, but his faith, support from his mentor Prophetess Regiletter Chiwoniwoni, family, teammates, club management, coaches, medical staff and supporters helped him remain focused during rehabilitation.

After months away from action, Charamba made his return to competitive football on Matchday 21 of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season. His comeback was a reminder of his determination and patience.

Since returning, the Chicken Inn forward has featured in two matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist, quickly showing that he still has an important role to play in the Gamecocks’ campaign.

Looking back at his journey, Charamba’s story is not only about individual achievements. It is about growth, overcoming challenges and representing Chicken Inn with pride.

From being recognised among the country’s best players, to overcoming injury, to serving as a pastor while competing at the highest level, Charamba’s journey represents the connection between faith, football and resilience.

As he continues wearing the Chicken Inn colours, his focus remains on helping the club succeed, inspiring others and using both football and faith to make a positive impact.

To the club and supporters, Charamba’s message remains clear: the journey is not finished.
